As the system operator, we ensure reliable, independent system operations by controlling and monitoring electric generation, transmission and distribution assets owned by Oglethorpe Power Corporation, Georgia Transmission Corporation, the Member Systems and other customers. We enable our Members' participation in the energy market in Georgia and the Southeast by providing a range of operations services that allow our Members to transact, optimize and account for their business in the wholesale energy market. We implement purchase and sales contracts, schedule and monitor individual hourly transactions, dispatch and monitor generation assets, capture the necessary data for billing, and ensure customer confidentiality by following strict standards of conduct. We monitor the substations from which our Members serve their load, and we respond to system anomalies and proactively work to correct or prevent potential issues and to minimize outages. The Member Systems serve approximately 50 percent of the households in Georgia, covering more than 65 percent of the land area in the state. GSOC complies with all North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) and Southeastern Electric Reliability Council (SERC) operational and reliability standards. |
